This Privacy Policy explains how PepAsk collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use pepask.com and its educational tools.
Information you provide
When you create an account, we may receive your email address, account identifier, and basic profile information such as your name or profile image. If you use Google sign-in, Google provides the information you authorize during sign-in. We do not receive your Google password.
We also process information you choose to enter, including chat questions, conversation history, calculator values, and saved calculations. Please do not submit medical records, government identifiers, payment-card information, or other sensitive personal information.
Information collected automatically
PepAsk may process basic technical information necessary to operate and secure the service, such as IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, authentication events, error logs, and rate-limit activity. We use essential cookies for authentication, security, and the ten-question guest allowance. Guest identifiers and question-count cookies may remain on your device for up to one year.
Chat history may also be stored in your browser's local storage so it remains available on that device. You can remove that information by deleting chats in PepAsk or clearing your browser's site data.
How we use information
We use information to provide responses and calculations, authenticate users, save and display account history, enforce usage limits, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, maintain security, and communicate about account or support matters. We do not sell or rent personal information, and PepAsk does not currently use personal information for targeted advertising.
AI processing and research sources
Questions submitted to the AI chat, along with limited recent conversation context, are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. Search terms derived from a question may also be sent to the U.S. National Library of Medicine's PubMed services to locate relevant sources. Do not enter information you do not want processed by these services.
Google user data
PepAsk uses Google account data only to provide and secure sign-in and account functionality. We do not use Google user data for advertising, sell it, or transfer it except as needed to provide the service, comply with law, protect users, or with your consent. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Service providers
We rely on service providers that process information on our behalf, including Supabase for authentication and database services, Google for sign-in and Gemini AI, Hostinger for website hosting, and YouTube for embedded videos. YouTube videos use its privacy-enhanced embed domain, but YouTube may receive technical information when you load or interact with a video. These providers maintain their own privacy practices.
Data retention and deletion
We retain account information and saved content while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to operate the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Local browser history remains until you delete it or clear site data. You can delete individual chats through the chat interface. To request access to or deletion of your account and associated server-stored information, email support@pepask.com.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so you should avoid submitting confidential or highly sensitive information.
Children's privacy
PepAsk is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it.
Your choices and rights
You may choose not to create an account, decline Google sign-in, delete chats, clear browser data, or request account deletion. Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information. Contact us to submit a request. We may need to verify your identity before completing it.
International processing
PepAsk and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Data-protection laws in those locations may differ from those where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as PepAsk changes. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the effective date. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies to future use.
